Cycling through languages: I cannot seem to choose a single language and work with it.. What’s my problem?
I have taken spanish for at least 4 years, and initially, I thought it would be a great idea to learn it. But I immediately lost interest and will not even pick up books or dictionaries as refreshers. It has been years since, and I am always fumbling through many languages, trying each one, picking up very little. I lose interest, then regain interest. I also tried stimulating myself by watching subbed movies or hear people speak. To me, some languages seem so fun to speak, like russian or japanese, and other’s seem to be more challenging like chinese etc.. The real question is, how do I fall in love with just one language, to the point I can study it more and more?
I don’t want people spurting things out like “try rosetta stone” [I absolutely HATE rosetta stone by the way], or try flash cards and study every day, because I could, but would just lose interest again. Does anyone else currently have this problem, or have had this problem?
Don’t focus that much on the actual language, are there any cultures that you are extra interested in? Because in that case, you could learn the language because you want to understand the culture better, and you won’t loose interest as fast. And then when you know some of the language, you might travel to the country and experience things and practice to use the language. Good Luck, I know how it’s like, I took spanish fo four years and now I have forgotten like all of it, and it wasn’t even a year ago that I stopped taking it
