Cycling Vs Running Weight Loss
Cycling vs. Running?
Which is better for you as far as weight loss?
- You don’t need a lot of equipment for running except some running shoes
VS.
- You need a bike and a helmet for starters, then you can add gloves, air pump, water bottle, etc.
- You have no equipment to maintain if you run
VS.
- You have to maintain your bicycle and replace your helmet every few years
- When running you can only cover a few miles so the scenery can get boring
VS.
- When cycling you can cover greater distances, so scenery varies more.
- There’s more impact on your feet and knees when running.
VS.
- Cycling is a low impact sport, although you should be careful adjusting your seat. If you are sitting on the blood vessels that run between your legs rather than on your bones, you could develop impotence (men) or unability to orgasm (women). Note that this could only happen afte riding for years and years, and if you never take the time to properly adjust your seat. If your groin feels numb after riding for a while, don’t ignore it, adjust your seat by tilting it forward.
- There’s a low likelyhood that you will be severely hurt if you trip while running
VS.
- There’s a greater chance of getting hurt when falling of a bicycle, mainly due to the increased speed (hence the helmet).
- If you want to run at a park or trail you probably have to drive there if it’s far away.
- You could ride your bike to the park or trail and log in even more miles, while saving gas.
- It’s very unlikely that you can commute to work by “walking” or running.
- A lot of people find that they can commute to work by cycling a few miles. I myself commute to work 15 miles away, something I couldn’t do by walking or running.
- If you get tired of running, the only thing you can do is walk or stop altogether.
- You can use low gears if you are out of shape when climbing slopes, and you can rest on the descents.
- If you get hurt running, you probably wouldn’t be very far from home anyway so it’s easier to get back home.
- If you get a flat or a breakdown and are far away from home you could be stranded if you don’t have the proper equipment to fix your tire or your mechanical trouble. Or you would have a long walk home while pushing your bike.
So there you have it. Look at the options. But choose something you like. Good luck.
