Cycling Shoes Clearance

Cycling shoes for women
I need some advice from you seasoned vets out there with regard to various brands of cycling shoes and fit. I have rather wide feet and need a shoe with a large toe-box, and am finding that most cycling shoes to be rather narrow in the front with little height in the toe-box. I ride a hybrid with SPD pedals, so I’m looking a for a new mountain or general purpose style shoe, not a true road shoe, and need some ideas on which brands of shoes would likely be more accomodating of my duck-like feet? I tried on a Cannondale shoe that was on clearance at a Performance store, and for a woman-specific shoe, it seemed very roomy, but was at least a size too big.
Oh, and before anyone asks, my primary reason for not going with a men’s shoe is that they are typically too wide in the heel. The Shimano shoe I have now is a men’s and even that feels narrow, even tho my foot only measures a C width. I just ordered a pair of women’s shoes from Performance and they are too narrow too.
I do bike fitting for a bike shop and spend a good deal of time on choosing the right shoe.
Sidi – very popular shoes, run a little narrow and low volume
Specialized – great all-around shoes, run standard width, good volume
Carnac – slightly wider toebox
Shimano – slightly wider toebox
Get Women’s shoes. Don’t order them, you need to try them on. Have your foot measured by someone that knows what they’re doing, and try on several pairs from different shops if you’re able. This is the foundation of your interaction with your bicycle. It’s worth spending the time to find the right pair. I would also recommend changing out the footbed that comes with the shoe to something that will give you more support. (Specialized, Superfeet, etc.) Good luck!
